Fintry Shawl

I'm a big fan of the Okanagan Valley in the BC Interior, so when I saw that Knox Mountain Knit Co. name their shawl designs after places in the Okanagan, I bought a whole bunch. Fintry is the first one I've knit, the other ones are planned for the fall when I can handle worsted weight on my lap again without melting in the summer heat. {P.S. Knox Mountain Knit Co. also has a great selection of leather shawl cuffs you *have* to check out!}

Pattern: Fintry Shawl by Knox Mountain Knit Co.

Yarn: Snuggly Baby Bamboo by Sirdar (bought at Yarn Canada), colour Putty

Weight: DK

Yards used: ~ 560

Cost of yarn: CAD$45.50

One thing I've noticed ever since I started paying attention to gauge and needle size is that I used to use needles that were way too small. In fact, I only ever bought worsted yarn and knitted everything with a US 7 needle. I know, right? The DK bamboo blend I used for the Fintry shawl calls for a US 6 but the pattern calls for a size 7 and that ended up being perfect. Just the right tension, no issues with the lace, and it flew off the needles.

It took me a bit longer to complete than normal; I was out of commission for 4 full days of not being able to knit with really bad neck pain {slept funny and then held my head even funnier and it all went downhill from there and was not funny at all}. Usually this would have been a 1-week project and it was just under two due to the pain-in-the-neck. It was easy knitting, the pattern kept it interesting while not being hard to memorize.

I screwed up one line of pattern towards the end but it blended in so well {because it was uniformly wrong across the entire row} that I decided to leave it. Do you ever leave it mistakes, or always frog and do over?

The shawl blocked up nicely and stretching it a bit really opened up the lace pattern. With the heat wave we're having right now it dried in less than 24 hours and I'm very pleased with the overall result. Love the colour, the feel, and the pattern.

What are you working on right now? Leave me a link in the comments, I'd love to check it out!
