Sagebrush Hat and Buttoned Neck Hugger

The weather turned frosty this week and I felt the urge to knit something warm. My Shift cowl is perfect for the Fall weather, but once the temperatures dip below zero I need something cozier. I had two skeins of LOL Worsted Superwash from West Coast Colours kicking around, and two patterns that were a perfect fit.

Patterns: Sagebrush Hat by Knox Mountain Knit Co and Buttoned Neck Hugger by Shelley Carr.

Yarn: LOL Worsted by West Coast Fibres in Coquihalla colourway

Weight: Worsted

Yards used ~ 150 for hat and 160 for neck hugger

Cost of yarn: ~CAD60 for both patterns

The neck hugger uses a simple ribbing pattern, easy to memorize and perfect for mindless evening knitting. Or day knitting, if you have the time. Sigh. As much as I love an intricate pattern, it's so relaxing to just knit and let your mind wander.

The neck hugger was finished in no time, and I moved on to the Sagebrush Hat. It knit up so fast that I didn't even take a picture until it was more than halfway done. I tried knitting with 16" circular needles at first, but the short needles just drive me nuts, so I switched to using 32" needles and magic loop. So much more comfortable to knit! Do you find that as well?

The yarn is super soft and I love the colourway - Coquihalla. Knox Mountain Knit Co. also has a Coquihalla Hat pattern {which I love!}, but it calls for DK weight yarn and I've never tried converting yarn weights. If you have any tips or resources to share, let me know in the comments!

I love how both the hat and the neck hugger turned out, and I'm sure I'll get good use out of them this winter.

I already have another WIP on my needles, a cowl for my husband - coming to the blog next. What are you working on right now? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to check it out!
