The Rincon Cowl

When my husband saw The Shift Cowl I knitted for myself he decided he wanted one as well, just with less colourwork. If you've ever used the pattern search on Ravelry you know how overwhelming it can be, and there are A LOT of cowls. While scrolling through the gazillion results, the Rincon Cowl caught my eye and the lovely Andie from the Impossible Knot Yarn Shop added two balls of yarn to an order I placed with her for another project. It turned out to be the perfect yarn; my husband loves the colour and I love that it's superwash, because I have a feeling it will get a lot of use.

Pattern: Rincon Cowl by Stephannie Tallent

Yarn: Deluxe DK Superwash in colour Twilight Rustic by Universal Yarns

Weight: DK

Yards used: ~ 430

Cost of yarn {incl. tax}: $34.70

The yarn knit up nicely and the pattern sequences are all knits and purls. I used the line by line instructions, I find it easier to work with than a chart. It's definitely not a pattern for TV knitting but you won't get bored with all the pattern changes.

After a week of evening knitting I cast off, then sewed it together with a mattress stitch and gently blocked it. When my husband wore it to model it, it was not quite dry yet, but he'll be able to wear it soon enough ~ winter is coming!

A while ago, I timed myself for several different patterns and stitches to see how much time I need to knit one yard of yarn. My average is about 1:15 minutes. The Rincon Cowl took about 430 yards of yarn, so that works out to almost 8.5 hours of knitting plus about half an hour for finishing. And that seems about right. Do you keep track of your knitting time for different projects? I'd love to know!

What's on your needles right now? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to check it out!
